Piaget : History

Looking back on it, the road taken by the House of Piaget, from its modest beginnings to the provider of coveted luxury watches has been as stony as it has been long. In 1874, Georges Piaget started producing pocket-watches in his secluded family farm.
Sometime after the turn of the century, his sons switched over to wristwatches.
Until the early fifties, both production and renown remained limited.
Then things started moving steeply upwards under the leadership of Gérald and Valentin Piaget, when the production of their own movements earned Piaget the title of " manufacture ".
Piaget's first hand-wound caliber 9P movement (diameter, 9 lignes), appeared in 1956.
The 12 P automatic with a gold mini-rotor, introduced in 1959, is still in production as one of the thinnest of its kind with a height of only 2,3 mm.
Today, Yves Georges Piaget, born in 1942, holds the post of company president.
But he is no longer the owner.
In 1988 the Vendôme group acquired 60 % of the shareholding.
Since 1993, Piaget has been wholly owned by the luxury empire.
